The title of this message is inspired by this truly inspiring song entitled Something Inside So Strong by Labi Siffre. Here is the YouTube link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zOqUwAclOcY
Last night William comes up to give me a hug before he goes to bed. He looks at me and says “mommy do you read your Bible every day and every night.” As much as I wish the answer was yes I replied, “William I have to read my Bible every day to help me stay grounded.” He said “ok mom” with a look of contentment and then he went to lay down.
It just so happened as he asked that very question I was thanking God for His word. It brings me such peace and understanding and it truly helps. It is my Basic Instruction Before I Leave this Earth.
The last few nights my heart has been so heavy as I along with the rest of the world process what’s happening in our world today. Some folks say never in a million years would they think an average of 3000+ would loose their life to a deadly virus like Covid-19, never would five Americans loose their life due to senseless violence at the State Capitol, never in a million years would there still be the same amount of injustices and prejudices that our very own ancestors got hung, bled, and died over.
It truly is sad. But does this surprise me? No, honestly it doesn’t. If you go back to the biblical days you see how thousands lost their lives, there were senseless murders, and the injustice was simply despicable.
I often ask myself should I talk about these injustices but often I’m left in silence praying for God to prevail in such a dark, cold world. The same way I silence my voice regarding my political views, I have silenced myself regarding some rather personal injustices and circumstances that weigh on me from time to time.
Ponder the path of your feet,
And let all your ways be established.
Proverbs 4:26 NKJV
This is a spiritual war and we must be alert AT ALL TIMES! We have to fight and stay on guard but we must know what we must fight for, how we must fight, and how we must act. While some sought to fight physically we must fight on our knees.
For the commandment is a lamp,
And the law a light;
Reproofs of instruction are the way of life.
Proverbs 6:23 NKJV
Trying to do this thing called life our way verses God’s way we are destined for trouble.
Sometimes there are certain injustices that happen that we bring upon ourselves because we think no one is paying attention. God is always watching! The devil is always lurking sneaking in cracks that we leave open and unfilled.
You know that saying what happens in the dark comes to the light. You know where the inspiration from that saying came from?
“Stolen water is sweet,
And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
But he does not know that the dead are there,
That her guests are in the depths of hell.”
Proverbs 9:17-18 NKJV
We can try to pass judgement on what other folks are doing but it is not our place. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 11:17 that the merciful man does good for his own soul, but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.
Sometimes I wonder why people act so foolish seeking to take their fellow brethren’s lives when this virus is killing innocent people day in and day out. I would have thought crimes would have gone down- they did for a while. But then we find ourselves back in the same mess.
Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression,
But a good word makes it glad.
The righteous should choose his friends carefully,
For the way of the wicked leads them astray.
Proverbs 12:25-26 NKJV
I speak so much about encouragement, inspiration, motivation, etc. because in the world we are living in we need as much encouragement and positivity there is. God’s word is a constant encouragement. Many people don’t even take advantage of this free resource. A Book of Knowledge should be widespread yet we will spread senseless tweets, memes, or tags that are appealing to the eyes. What about our hearts?
The title says There is something inside of me that is so strong. Using the scripture references so far, can you take a guess at what that “something” is? I’ll give you a hint. PROVERBS!!!!
If you guessed the word wisdom then you are correct!
“All our fret and worry is caused by calculating without God.”
Oswald Chambers
James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
As I meditate over Scripture I am amazed how fitting the song that was forwarded to me by Kelly was right on time with the scriptures I was studying for the day. With so much going on we must read the Word. We must speak life over our troubles, we must claim victory over our trials, we must discern and ask God for spiritual wisdom to keep from having a headache or heartache.
As I stated earlier I have some things that are heavy on my heart and while I thought of having a very open and transparent moment I stumbled upon this scripture.
Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace;
When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.
Proverbs 17:28 NKJV
Are you in a place where you have a prayer burden and you are wondering if you should speak up or hold your peace. Ask God and be quiet to listen for His voice. Everything we think is not meant to come out of our mouth. Ask Mrs. Carolyn, Lord knows I had to hold my mule yesterday.
Listening to this song brought so many tears of sweet relief.
Whether you speak up or hold your peace, always trust God! The Bible tells us to meditate in our heart and be still.
Are you being still? Are you meditating on the word of the Lord? Are you tapping into the knowledge of God?
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.
Proverbs 18:10 NKJV
Whether you are running, springing, crawling, walking, sprinting, or skipping in your current position in life- remember the Lord is a strong tower.
Though it seems I may rambling God knows my heart. I trust God that a scripture, the song, or something in today’s message spoke to you.
Seek God and His infinite wisdom. Trust Him and His plan. Cast your fears on Him for He cares for you. God is our strong tower!
Amen
Yes. God is THE Strong Tower and I find myself leaning on him daily…..because I tell you with all the stuff that is going on in the world especially surround all the deaths with this COVID I had to hold my mule yesterday. Lord knows prayer changes people and it does. Now on yesterday, I was being harassed about work that was completed since the 5th of the month. Lord knows, you would think, People would have empathy if you hear, of someone that has been exposed to this pestilence; knowing that 300,000 deaths that have occurred along with the daily deaths in the news reports, the FB scrolls with all the loved ones in the hospitals that’s on the ventilators fighting for their lives; but GOD. The devil tried to tempt me yesterday. I almost lost my cool….had to mediate Philemon 1-3…grace and peace. I also had to remember who this person was and know that they don’t have this quality about themselves….was just meditating on who I am and I know who lives in me. That person who resides in me is my SALVATION. “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my son; he has become my salvation.” – Isaiah 12:2 Oh Hallelujah. He is my STRONGHOLD….BECAUSE SOMETHING ON THE INSIDE OF ME SAID PEACE BE STILL. OH HALLEUJAH!
Yes …Won’t GOD be your EVERYTHING! and RIGHT ON TIME.
