Have I truly slowed down to listen to God?

After the Praise & Worship team had blessed us all on yesterday with Madison singing the lead on “God of possible”, the man of God blessed us with a wonderful message entitled “A Call to Listen.” If you haven’t gotten a chance to listen to Madison sing her little heart out, click here! Also if you have time please click here to listen to the message and the full clip from yesterdays service. Great message for church leaders, community leaders, parents, and people of all ages.

Not to take too much of your time or duplicate what has already been said, I would like to list a few verses that were shared with the congregation on yesterday:

  • Leviticus 25:1-12
  • John 10:14-16
  • Isaiah 40:11
  • Ezekiel 34:11-16

Pastor Steven stated that we should enter into a season of listening. God is calling us to listen. You shall then sound a ram’s horn abroad on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the day of atonement you shall sound a horn all through your land. Leviticus 25:9

Here are a few things that stood out to me that God placed on my heart to share with you:

  • God is saying to us enter into an intentional state of listening.
  • Stay focused.
  • Listen to what God is saying.
  • God wants us to do something new.
  • God wants us to do something fresh.
  • God wants to illuminate our hearing.

As I studied over my notes and I took the time to read the scriptures mentioned in his message, Ezekiel 34:15-16 stood out to me. The Lord is the Good and Great Shephard. Everything the Lord does, He does for our good. Every decision He makes is beneficial to His people. Even down to what we eat; the Lord gives us nourishment so we can be in good health. My study Bible says, The Lord makes us lie down when we would rather keep moving.

I tell you I’ve learn how disobedient I could be and how in a hurry I can be at times. God has used financial struggles, health scares, a period of homelessness, anxiety, depression, covid, other sickness, marital strife, confusion, disobedient children, and even death to get my attention AND to slow me down. I admit I was hard headed I didn’t understand what God was trying to say to me or get across to me until I was at a point where I couldn’t run or hide or do anything. Sometimes pain would be so bad all I could do why cry and rest…and that’s when I heard God speaking so clearly.

Sometimes I wondered why did it take all of that and I couldn’t rap my head around what could be so important that I just couldn’t quiet myself to listen. I tell you one thing, I have learned my lesson and I won’t take God’s warning signs for granted ever again. God is faithful even in His punishment for our disobedience. God is merciful even in His wrath.

Have things happened in your life recently or over time and you wondered if God was trying to get your attention? In my opinion, covid slowed us down as a nation. We have had to take a long pause to mourn, heal, cope, and trying to piece our lives back together one day at a time.

As God is speaking I pray we will slow down and listen. Take the time to listen to what God wants us to do within ourselves, our homes, our marriages, our relationships, on our jobs, in our churches, in the world.

Before I end todays message I would love to include you in the challenge we received today: As we enter into our own season of listening be intentional, stay focused, and truly listen to what God is saying.

In case my notes didn’t do any justice to the message “A Call to Listen,” I encourage you to click the link above and listen to the full message. Be blessed my brothers and sisters.

  1. Yes, that’s the reason God gave us two ears and one mouth. I know I need to listen and be obedient. God has placed me in a position right now where I am listening to myself and my kids, especially my EJ. You would think that Joshua is the one who wants all the attention since he is the youngest, but no it’s the oldest my EJ. My first born. EJ goes back and forth with I wish I was litlle because Josh gets all the hugs and kisses(he doesn’t); or He will say I wish I was a grown up because you get to do what ever you want. Ha! How many of us well atleast some of us know that is not a true statement. There is something that is missing from his life called bills that he does not have to worry about. At EJ’s age all I had to do was go to school, eat, play, assist in some chores, and that’s it. How many of us can raise our hands and say I wish I could go back? My hand would be the first one raised! Oh what seems like mountains of laundry and the washing and drying is not even the bad part. It’s the hanging and folding up of all the clothes. Unfortunately, My EJ and Madison have taken to my old eating habits. They eat with their eyes and inhale the food, not quite chewing it all up and ask for seconds in addition to dessert. 🙁 Oh how this is going to change in the near future. Their large appetities will be large appetites of vegetables mostly. They are in for a rude but healthly 😉 awakening. I thank God for my job and understanding Manager. Lord knows I would be lost without the circle of people that God has sent me. I thank him daily for listening to me in my cries and struggles. Now it’s time for me to listen to him. Amen Apple Head.

    1. Amen amen and AMEN. Lord I am praying that YOU hear the cries of my sweet friend and that you free her from all worry, pain, anger, disappointment, confusion and whatever else may be distracting her from being able to hear YOUR voice in this season. God we thank you for the folks in her corner and we ask for a special blessing for them, her, and her children.
Lord give her a special dose of patience, a sprinkle of love, a dash of wisdom, a liter of restored Faith, and a heart to endure. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
