A penny short<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Left work the other day and had to ask God for a miracle on the way home. Driving a total of 100-150 miles daily just to make sure the boys get to school, we get to work, they get to their practices, games, the grocery store, etc. is very costly. And with the rise of gas prices, I often wonder is it cheaper to get a horse and carriage. The gas light had come on when we were a mile away from our exit and while happy to get home, I wondered just how we would make it to school and work. Made it in the cozy house, ate dinner together, got chores done and put on a load of laundry, and sat down while trying to figure out where the money was going to come from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It dawned on me that I had a pocketbook or two in the closet that I could look in for spare change, and so I did. Transparent moment: there was a peace and a contentment<\/em> I had that felt refreshing. Months or even weeks prior I would have been crying my heart out wondering what I was doing wrong, where could I cut corners to make ends meet, or what else would I have to give up just to be able to make it to work BUT this felt different. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Micah had come in the kitchen and asked me if I had gotten paid, without hesitation he asked me for lunch money and snacks. I reminded him that I had just brought snacks but they are such big eaters, things don\u2019t often last as long as they should. I also had to remind him that a full tank of gas does not go far when you are constantly going from this gym, to this school, to that workout, etc. He sighed and walked away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

William walks into the kitchen and asked me the same thing, when do I get paid because he needs a few things from the store. I reminded William that I didn\u2019t get paid and shrugged him off because at this point I was getting annoyed. They don\u2019t understand how hard it is to keep up with their extra curricular activities and all the expenses that go along with it while making sure they are properly fed, clothed (and it seems as if their feet grow every other week), make sure the bills are paid, car is maintained, gas, etc.) <\/em>And so William asked me when was the next time I was going to Door Dash. I gladly reminded him that I just got off of work and I need to sit down and I don\u2019t have money to Door Dash. We go back and forth (William thinks he is my daddy) <\/em>and finally I tell him to drop it. He failed to realize it takes gas to Door Dash and the light just came on which means it\u2019s 40 miles until empty. A few minutes went by and William peaked his head back in the kitchen. He says, \u201cyou know ma you can always ride the bike to Door Dash,\u201d I saw red! The look in my eye must have shown him he was about to get smacked upside his head so he left. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I went in the room and started emptying out my pocketbook. I found $3 and told Micah but he was reluctant and said put it towards gas. After not finding a lot (maybe $2-3) I decided to dig through some other pocketbooks. I found old birthday and Christmas cards, I found gift cards that I thought I had used, receipts, and so many other things that touched me. I even found a check that my mom had wrote to one of coworkers in 2020 or 2021 for the loss of his mother. After looking through 5 pocketbooks we were able to scrap together approximately $78 dollars. Who would have known that by not properly cleaning out my pockets since 2021 and 2022 we would find a combination of coins, dollars, and gift cards to ensure gas over the next couple of days! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

William came in while I was taking the picture and said, \u201cwait mom you going to show people this!\u201d I immediately replied yes I am going to write about it because I need to encourage others to trust God in the midst of their struggle. I asked him if he was embarrassed but he shook his head know. We always teach our kids to stay humble, never forget where you come from, and never miss the opportunity to point someone to Christ. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a family we are striving to sit at God\u2019s table of shalom unscathed! We are pushing past this current season of uncertainty and praising God and thanking Him in advance for delivering us out of this. God has called us to look to Him for which cometh our help. Yes I admit, when I was in crunch like this I would pick up the phone and call mommy and daddy BUT what happens when mommy and daddy have gone on to be with the Lord? Yes I could have called Tal, Bess, Regis, Jasmine, Faith, or Kelly but I remembered we don\u2019t need to be slaves to debt (that\u2019s what started the domino effect in the first place when it was just me working while Rico recovered from a bad car accident). <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My brothers and sisters I know some of you may be facing the same difficulties right now in your own household and maybe the stress of it all is overwhelming; I want you to know that God is our provider! He will supply ALL of our needs! God placed it on my heart to tell you to trust Him until it hurts! I know it may look like the walls are caving in and you have more bills than you do income BUT God will make a way out of no way. Your struggle might not be financial, it could be depression, insecurity, health, etc. whatever it is it is not too small or too big for God. He cares all about it! <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t get so caught up in your circumstances that you forget to be a blessing to someone else. God can use you and your current situation to encourage someone who may be going through to keep the faith and not give up. Like Faith said, we have to be about our Fathers business! When people come to Dolly\u2019s House they don\u2019t need to feel like they are a burden because I pulled up to the church on E\u2026they need to see a smiling face that is thanking God that I had a working car in the first place to get there and He provided. When I\u2019m preparing an invoice for Spry\u2019s Durty Kitchen I don\u2019t tax my client(s) out the butt because I know money is tight for everyone and God is not going to bless or grow our business by making people pay outrageous prices. And lastly I don\u2019t sit here and lie on my devotional blogs and act like everything is perfect, I\u2019m rolling in doe, or whatever BUT I can tell you the message God placed on my heart with my mess..I can tell you this is only a test for my testimony\u2026and I can tell you in Christ I know every little thing is going to be alright. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today\u2019s photo entitled, \u201cA Penny Short,\u201d is a portrait Rico and I got 10 plus years ago. It keeps us humble and brings peace during times like this when we are literally scraping together every penny, nickle, dime, quarter, etc. we can find. It brings comfort knowing God can trust us with the little and scream and shout joy when He allows us to live life more abundantly. Right here, right now I want you to claim success over your business, speak life and prosperity over your health, wealth, family, and finances, prophesy the greatness that is coming, and claim your best is yet to come! Spry\u2019s Durty Kitchen will turn a substantial profit and we will get our brick and mortar eatery; Dolly\u2019s House will have faithful volunteers that will help keep things going and we will be a blessing and reach many, many people; InspirationAllAroundMe will be a place where people feel open and have a sense of peace and freedom; and my family will have good health, get out of debt, secure financial freedom and stability; and I will be able to do the jobs full time that bring me purpose, fulfillment, and joy! <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now that\u2019s how <\/strong>you trust God in the midst of what you are going through. That is how you find peace in the midst of what has you bound or held captive. That is how you keep a continuous praise in your mouth. That is how you take back the power you gave the enemy with your tears of fear and heartache due to the unknown by raising God through it.
