After receiving an automated text from the pod storage company I got myself together to go outside to meet the delivery guy. To my surprise my ears heard him coming down the street so I was able to meet him in the driveway to tell him where I wanted him to drop the pod off. He said I was an easy customer and he was always grateful to find nice people. We chatted for a few minutes while he was getting the storage pod off of his truck. What he said next was sad but undeniably true. He said, “meeting kind people are far too rare these days, so when I meet nice people like you, it makes me happy!” He said I can tell you are kind by your smile and how pleasant you’ve been since you first greeted me. It made me think it’s time for me to do some recruiting to find more smiles, more pleasant folks, more bright spirited persons to help build up our communities.
I’ve had many conversations where I’ve heard folks say the pandemic brought out the worse is people, everyone is so antisocial now, no one wants to show love, give a hug, or even crack a smile. I mean I could list all of the negative things that has come out of the pandemic but fortunately my list of positives supersedes the negative. While it is true covid has uncovered some ugly truths, the fact of the matter is, those same folks were the same before the pandemic and after one million plus folks have tragically lost their lives to this beast and other sicknesses; some folks haven’t changed. Can we blame the pandemic?
So before Mr. Ron, the delivery driver, left, he blessed me by his beautiful spirit. He told me his dream was to own his own truck and work for himself and if I received a survey to please give him high ratings. I reassured him that he would be getting 10/10 and we claimed him owning his own truck in Jesus name. He replied, “If it is in Jesus will then I will have my truck!”
The survey still hasn’t come yet but he has left a lasting impression on my heart that I must share with you all this morning.
My brothers and sisters God is calling us to recruit for His army. There is a great work to be done and though so many of us are doing it the numbers could be higher. You see there are neighborhoods, communities, schools, churches, children, families, relationships, penal systems, healthcare systems, nursing homes, police stations, hospitals, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and the list goes on that NEED positive affirmations, positive reinforcement, a kind word, a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on, a tissue to dry their tears, a hot meal, a song sung, a scripture read, a prayer prayed, sometimes they just need our ear. Whatever it is God can use you!
Friends you know the best things I love about being in this “recruitment business for the Lord” is:
- God doesn’t care about your background.
- God doesn’t care where you’ve come from.
- God doesn’t care how much many is in your bank account.
- God doesn’t care if you have a rap sheet longer that the Mississippi River.
- God could care less what designer clothes you wearing or how much your jewelry costs.
- God is not after your money.
- God doesn’t care about the car you drive or if you walking or even catching the city bus.
No see that’s where folks have got it all wrong. The thing I love about being in God’s recruiting business is because He will use a perfect stranger like Ron the delivery man who came to drop off a storage pod but used him to drop off so much more.
The title of todays message is NOW HIRING. God is calling His children who are HIGH IN DEMAND to spread His word, His love, His grace, His mercy, His kindness to others. They don’t have to be in your same neighborhood, they don’t have to eat the food you eat, or even where the same clothes that you wear.
It’s time for us to strengthen our spiritual resume; it’s time to put all those years of experience to work for the Lord. It’s time for us to trade our excuses for Solutions. It’s time to trade our NO’s for God’s YES. It’s time to trade our sorrow to joy.
I chose Luke 6:44-45 today because as these verses talk about how a tree is known for its fruit, God laid it on my heart to encourage those reading todays message to recruit you and to challenge you to use the fruit you are bearing to the glory of God. It’s not about where you’ve been, it’s not about where you are not, but it’s about what you going to do one minute, one hour, one day, one week, one month, one year and on for God.
We can’t live for mommy and daddy, we can’t live for the Porsche we want in the driveway, we can’t live for the stripper named Strawberry with the dimple on her left cheek….no my sisters and brothers we have to live for the Lord.
Ron the delivery man if you ever get a chance to read this I pray you know how much your kind words blessed me and encouraged me to further my work in the Lord. Just by your dreams and aspirations and talking about hiring you have furthered my desire to “recruit for Jesus.” Now I know I didn’t feel out the application online nor did I dial the number or have a formal interview but I GAVE GOD MY YES. And folks that’s all He needs. He is after your heart!
Let’s bear good fruit and sow good seeds. Let’s pray for our friends, family, and enemy. Friends let’s increase our quality and quantity of fruit to help our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Let’s recruit for God’s army!
For your reading pleasure and when you get a moment read Luke 6:27-36. Verses 34-36 read:
“And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinned to receive as much back.
“But love your enemies, so good, and lend hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be some of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.
“Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.
God knows our hearts and the desire of our hearts. The Bible says He is kind to the unthankful and evil. I know we are all sinners and fall short but God wants to bless us not judge us. There maybe one who is reading todays message that thinks that he or she isn’t worthy because of the bad decisions they’ve made. We’ve all made decisions we regret but God is looking for something bigger than that. He is calling us together at this time, for His perfect plan.
