For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.

Audrey Hepburn

Maddy, our nurse for the evening came in to check on my mom. When she came in she looked outside and noticed how beautiful the sky was. I was mesmerized by how gorgeous it was so decided to take a picture.

We were in the middle of watching MSNBC so it felt good for mom and I took look at the “blue skies” and step away from the depressing news for a moment.

A 47 minute conversation sparked between Maddy and I. The conversation was so rich and authentic and it was nice to view things differently from a different perspective. Though she is a young white female and I am a middle aged black woman, we both boldly confessed our love of God who makes us equal and sisters despite the color of our skin.

From politics, church, religion, unity, racism, equality, morals, character, raising children, etc. we had the most interesting time. In that moment, she got a chance to take a break after having several new admissions that night and enjoy the work by just simply talking. Sometimes we don’t take the time to talk or on the other hand just to listen.

Maddy asked what could she do to help put a stop to the systematic racism and I told her by doing we she is doing now. By loving everyone and by taking the time to show concern for the next person. Since we came she along with several nurses tried to give me all of the knowledge and education that I will need to successfully take of my mom. I told her to continue to be compassionate and continue listening and being open to others truths.

Ten people who speak make more noise than ten thousand who are silent.

She thought she misspoke when she called me black so I had to ease her mind. I told her as long as she talks to me she should feel open to speak freely. I never liked walking on eggshells so wouldn’t want someone feeling that way while talking to me. I’m so happy we spoke and our words were heard and welcomed.

Pessimism doesn’t live here! Negativity doesn’t live here! Joy lives here! Skin tone and color didn’t matter in this conversation and it won’t be a factor in the future. God created us all in His image.

The morale of today’s message is to just enjoy life as it is. Don’t let this pandemic and the state of our nation stop you from knowing the power of God. Don’t get so caught up on race you forget your faith in God. As we look at the big blue skies, squash negativity and look at how God sees verses mere man.

  1. Love this, if everyone just do as the bible says, do unto others as you will have them do unto you, this world would be in a greater state.
