Not another poke. 6.23.2020

Beautiful progress
There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel-that will stand
Proverbs 19:21 (NKJV)

Ever since my mom was in the hospital they have to prick, pry, and poke. It’s kind of an oxymoron when the medical staff tell you to rest. I mean how can you rest when every 15-30 minutes a different set of folks is in your face. It’s like clock work: I’m from phlebotomy I’m coming to draw bloods, I’m your Patient Care Technician coming to get your vitals, have you had a bowel moment today, are you in any pain, would you like to turn on your right or left side…Hi I am from Physical Therapy it’s time to get up and take a walk or Hi I’m from Occupational Therapy your goals for the day are…..

Then the kicker is the 6am question that makes you want to reply “really?!!”, How did you rest last night?

All in all, it is all necessary for the continued health and progress of my mom or any patient and although it is annoying, it is necessary.

Have you ever felt like that? You go through life and so much goes on in a day but you have the “it is what it is” attitude because certain things are out of your control. What about the things you do have control over? Do you try to alter certain results that will be more favorable to your pallet? So what do you do for those things out of your control?

Our plans are not God’s plans and like the example I provided before with the hospital stay, God’s counsel will stand. We may want, wish, or disagree but God knows best. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, where more killing takes place than more kids graduate high school, where more kids are left being raised by mom or the grandmother because the father is absent for a number of reasons, etc. One may wonder or question God’s tactics but why should we? It is our job to trust and to obey.

Cease listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.
Proverbs 19:27 (NKJV)

Everything that happens is not by chance. God is trying to teach us something, but are we listening to receive what God is trying to give to us. Are we too busy or heavy hearted to receive what God has for us? The Bible tells us we should never stop learning and listening. So even when we get tired of getting our blood drawn, we know it is in our best interest. It may be aggravating, but necessary.

So is learning. Some folks feel I know this already, I don’t need to do this or do that. But with each new day, there is a new lesson. In the book of 2nd Peter the Bible tells us we should never be negligent. Another factor is trying to take short cuts in life. Some folks may think well I don’t have to go that way but I can go this way and can get there fifteen minutes quicker with less hassle.

Have you ever heard of the road that is less traveled? Ask yourself do I want to go through the bumps and the curves of life and trust God to equip me with everything I need or do I want to travel the straight and narrow path that is more “pleasant” or favorable.

The plans of the diligent leads to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.
Proverbs 21:5 (NKJV)

We can’t cut corners, we can’t try the “get rich quick scheme” and think we will be prosperous or “set for life”, and we cannot follow our own hearts if we wish to live life and live it more abundantly.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11

Allow the Lord to establish your steps. Remember that all things work together for the good, for those who are called according to His purpose. The Bible doesn’t sound our purpose or our plan BUT HIS PURPOSE.

So speaking to myself this morning I welcome when the nurses come in every 15-30 because I know it apart of God’s plan for my moms road to recovery. So now I don’t sigh when they ask how did we rest, we welcome their comments and whatever knowledge God placed it on their hearts for us to receive.

So in conclusion, trust the “man with the plan.” Trust God to make your paths straight and trust in Him with all your heart. Learn obedience and contentment in your faith then you will understand His way to prosper you.

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world- our faith.

1 John 5:4

We shall overcome
We shall overcome
We shall overcome, some day

Oh, deep in my heart
I do believe
We shall overcome, some day

We’ll walk hand in hand
We shall live in peace
We are not afraid

Lyrics from We Shall Overcome

  1. Well. This message has truly hit home for me. How many times have I tried to do things my way vs. talking with God about it first, asking and seeking is this the plan you have for me? I never asked which way to go. I just went because it is what “felt” right at the time or I chose this because of what happened to me in a certain situation so I assumed oh this has to be God’s plan for me…..nope. When I assume and try to move forward, it was like I took 10 steps backwards. I should of use my own advice that EJ knows….EVERYTHING IN PRAYER. So like your message, In the Beginning, Middle, and End Trust God and He will see you through. Thanks Pig Nose. Love you.

    1. I love you too! Isn’t it wonderful when we can learn at the hands and hearts of our children. God bless you for raising wonderful kids who know who God is!
