Don’t Be Afraid To Be Great!

A couple of months ago my youngest son, William, got the MVP award at one his AAU basketball tournaments. I’ll never forget what his coach said to him. He said, “Don’t ever be afraid to be great.”

Coach always gives motivating talks to the boys before and after practices and the games but that truly stood out to me.

As I sat in my office and looked back over the pictures and videos from yesterday’s bridging ceremony at the boys school I began to sob uncontrollably. I don’t take for granted the joy it was to see my youngest son walk across the bridge as he heads to the next milestone in his life. But I couldn’t help but think about the 19 children from Robb Elementary in Uvalde, TX that would never get the chance to walk across the bridge, graduate, or excel to the next level in life.

When I originally started writing on this topic two weeks ago I had a whole different angle that I was going to speak on but with a heavy heart I can’t even pull myself to deliver that message.

Instead I want to take the time to encourage our young people to be the people God created them to be. Children are our future! Children are the world!

Little boys and girls need to know God. They have to know they are loved. They have to know they can do and be anything they want to be. No matter what society says, THEY WILL SUCCEED.

Instead of us cursing children by calling them bad, mocking them by saying they will never amount to anything, giving up on them and allowing the streets to raise them, or cutting ties WE need to help BUILD THEM UP! Teach them about character, ambition, integrity, honesty, trust, love, obedience, education, talent, working, and all the tools our grandparents, parents, and the elders in the community instilled in us.

Parents say these positive affirmations to your children and encourage them. Young people repeat these words to yourself:

  • I am a child of God.
  • I am loved.
  • I matter.
  • I am valuable.
  • I am a leader and not a follower.
  • I have the ability to make a positive change.
  • I am important.
  • My life matters.
  • I can and will make a difference.
  • I am blessed.
  • I am wonderfully made.
  • I can be whoever I want to be.
  • I am smart.
  • I am beautiful/handsome.
  • I can use my words for good.
  • I am creative.
  • I am talented.
  • I am perfect the way God made me.

I need all my prayer Warriors, children of God, friends, and associates to join me in praying for our community and the young people. We are loosing too many people (especially young people) to gun violence, gangs, drugs, and HATE. If they aren’t being killed…some are killing. Let’s speak life, health, and strength into our babies.

If you are join me in prayer for our young people type praying hands in the comment section below. Help me pray and spread peace. Also share a positive affirmation with others reading today’s message. Share on social media and make sure to like today’s comment. We have to spread love. Help spread love by supporting today’s message. God bless you!

I always tell my boys to keep God first in whatever they do and they can not go wrong. Also to always strive for success and be the greatest them that they can be! Because no matter what, I will always love them and be there for them. Definitely praying for these kids and the families. 💜

  4. P.S. children, Let God walk with you daily so He can bring out the Greatness in each of you. You are made perfect in his image. You were predestined for Greatness before you were even born. It’s up to you to allow God in your life and for you to Choose to Do your Greatness God instilled in you. Trust God. Lean on God. God will see you through! If God is for you, Noone or nothing can be against you! I am a witness to God’s Greatness. LOVE Mommy❤

  5. Great morning!! This is an awesome message I agree we have to speak life into our children because the world will tear them down if we don’t. The world will tell them what they’re not and what they can’t be. This is so important to me because I was once constantly torn down by words in a relationship and I vowed to always use my words to build my kids and others up. I love these affirmations, I will be adding some of them to the ones I use. Our kids need to know God it can change their outcomes in the future!! Have a blessed day!!💕

    1. Amen amen and amen!!!! I thank God you use your words to build folks like me up! I appreciate you my friend.

After over 40 years of working with young children in schools and church, I have NEVER found a child that was not a HUGE storehouse of potential for making a difference. I met many whose potential was locked behind a short lifetime of negative things experiences who needed love, affirmation, guidance and God to unlock that potential. It is our responsibility as adult Children of God to insure that each child has that opportunity. Prayer is essential, but so is acting on our faith to bring about change one life at a time.

  7. Our prayers, love and telling our children and all children that God loves them as he made each one of them. They are precious in His sight and they are precious to all of us.
