An example of serving God.

It’s such a beautiful thing when we give of ourselves to help others.

Over this past weekend I was blessed by the Lord above to have the health and strength to walk in the Eau Claire community and place door hangers on the doors of many families. The task at hand was to pray over each house/family and place a door hanger on their doors to let them know they had been prayed for. This was the first time I was able to be on foot with my son and I tell you we could not have been partnered up with more kind hearted people.

For roughly two hours we went to over 100 houses. The time had gone by so fast and I couldn’t believe the blessings I received just by being able to pray for people in the community that had been a home to me and my family for years.

As we walked I looked at the street Mr. Brown lives on, where my children’s old babysitter used to live, we even walked down the street from Cherise’s old house. We met some amazing people, talked to the fire department whom were shutting down streets to have a block party to get the community together for fun, music, food, and more, and even stumbled across an old abandoned church that I visualized someone would open so the persons of this particular neighborhood would have a place to worship within walking distance.

One person stood out- his name was Xavier.

William and I walked up to this particular house we saw two men standing on the porch. Before I could even get close enough to introduce myself, Xavier’s dog came up to the fence. By the head on this bulldog I just knew I was in for a rude awakening if this cock diesel dog got out of the gate. To my surprise he was as gentle and calm as his owner, Xavier.

I told him a little bit about the church and after a formal introduction William, Kami, Ms. Rita, and Pastor Steven were on our way.

We truly had a blessed time in the Lord. This was an experience I will never, ever forget. And to top it off on our way headed back to our cars we able to see the fine gentleman of the Columbia Fire Department, marching band and color guards of Eau Claire High School, a motorcycle club, and more. The cherry on the top was a fighter fighter asking William and Kami to come to his fire engine and giving them a batch where they could wear with pride.

I had already had the mind to share this experience with others but then Sundays message was the ultimate confirmation for me.

The spirit in the atmosphere at church was so surreal. The class of 1974 had been up to worship with their classmates and the music was on point. Tempestt’s voice was angelic and the way Regis recorded the whole thing I’m sure the persons worshipping virtually were equally blessed. It had been so long since I worshipped with my original church family and to see how God tied his message with our activities on yesterday was simply amazing!

The man of God encouraged us to serve God and others. Not just serving God by putting money in the collection plate and showing up to church but by actively doing things to help others. He shared a question/conversation that him and a young man the name of Chris had. It was a thought provoking question. Although the answer was never clearly defined in their conversation the man of God gave an example of how he has recently been meeting people in wheelchairs who needed assistance.

His message was real, down to earth, and well received. Hearing about how God delivered him and saved him while providing context from Ephesians 2:1-6 was very refreshing. So often we think people in the church especially pastors come from prestige homes, have never done wrong, and have no blemishes. The message today showed how much God loves us and how much He cares.

There are over 25 scriptures in the Bible we can read that will provide encouragement for us to serve God and serve others, even our enemies.

Though I gave an example of going around the community praying over families in their home, there is a host of ways to serve God and to serve others.

Todays assignment: List a way that you can or have served God or others lately. Please share in the comments section below.
