Responding to the call.

It was a few minutes shy of 8pm when the phone rang. I didn’t recognize the number so I ignored it; the first time that is. The same long distance number called and I answered but couldn’t hear anyone on the other end so I hung up. The third time the phone rung, I pressed my ear into the phone wondering who could be calling me from this strange number. Nowadays we assume it is a robo call, spam likely, or someone trying to sell you solar panels. But it wasn’t!

Faith had been involved in a life changing accident and had asked a bystander to call me. Mrs. K spoke up and introduced herself explaining to me that Faith had been involved in a motor vehicle accident. At this time I could hear Faith crying and calling out my name; I still can’t get her cry or her screaming out of my ear. I had not been this shook since I don’t know when! I was extremely nervous and disturbed by the call I had to leave in a rush to run to my friends side.

Faith had just left work and wasn’t even able to make it to the stop light by her job when a car appeared out of nowhere knocking her car so hard causing it to flip and spin several times. The car finally stopped flipping while it was on its side, drivers side up. Thank God bystanders saw the accident and stopped to help, helping the then trapped Faith out of her car.

I sped to the scene of the accident not knowing what condition my horse nose friend was in or the whereabouts of her children. Mrs. K was at the scene when I arrived and gave me further instructions given to her by Faith, whom I was on the phone with at the time and was being transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital. Although I was on the phone with Faith I couldn’t really understand her as she was breathing heavily and in a lot of pain causing her to yelp Sporadically.

After retrieving items from Faith’s car and holding back tears, I rushed to the hospital. I beat the ambulance there, but security told me I had to wait approximately 30 minutes until Faith was processed which those 30 minutes felt like hours. I felt helpless and could only imagine the pain and agony Faith was in. Then you think of the trauma caused by being in a vehicle that is tumbling.

Faith said all she could do was call out Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Her faith never faltered. She prayed and asked God to keep her safe and He did just that. By the grace of God she came out with cuts and bruises (they had to remove glass from her neck) and a broken left hand. If you saw what I saw you would be praising God that she was able to walk out of the accident.

I don’t think Faith knows how thankful I am she is okay!

Two weeks later she is still praising God and not hesitating to spread the Good News. She is a miracle walking and has a testimony out of this world, and in her words “thankful to still be in the number.”

When I think of how resilient and courageous she is; it makes me think of the story of the four fisherman that were called to be Jesus’ disciples. Read Matthew 4:18-22.

You see like Faith, the fishermen did not hesitate to follow Jesus. Verse 20 says, they immediately left their nets and followed Him. It doesn’t say they hesitated, contemplated, nor failed to follow Jesus’ command.

On that note I want to speak to you briefly about how we too can be like Faith and the fishermen and be obedient to God’s will and His calling on our lives.

Sometimes we are disobedient and it causes a hinderance in our spiritual growth. Situations and circumstances occur to help center our focus and deepen our need and desire to have a deeper relationship with Christ. Some scholars say we are designed to obey- but the choices we make some would beg to differ.

Our goal should be to not be hesitant when God is moving us towards something. Our goal should be to have an immediate yes to God. We shouldn’t be on defense when asked to serve God. We shouldn’t question His way but just do as He commands. It’s too easy- but often we fall short. God knows this and He knows our heart so He will continue trying to captivate our hearts until we willingly surrender and respond to His call immediately.

On the 11th day of January in the year 2023 do a self assessment. Check in with yourself to see if you are where you want to be. If your desire is to pray more, read God’s word more, fellowship in church with other believers, fast and pray more, volunteer to help the needy, or whatever it is then take the first step to do so.

Faith chose Faith over fear. She did not cower when she was in her accident and she stood her ground and believed in the living God. She is an example of what it means to walk by faith and not by sight. Obedience yields great results! The results will strengthen your growth! Growth will enrich your experience while walking in greatness in this journey called life.

God is calling us to do His will, will you answer His call? Are you called to be fishers of men? Whose life can you influence for the glory of God?

I pray we will choose to be obedient, never hesitate to allow God to use us, and to be an example or a living witness like Faith telling the world how good our God is.

  1. Wow. Im so glad Faith is on the mend. What a testimony she has. Praying for a recovery of not only the physical but mental as well.

My aunt definitely chose the right name for her because she has always been a person that walks by FAITH, despite everything she’s been through! I thank God the babies were not with her and thank God even more for bringing her through. And thank YOU Whitnee for ALWAYS being a great bestie, and being there for horse nose (😂) since day 1. Yes. God was my Savior in my car that flipped several times. I can’t describe to you how scared I was…I know I just began to call on the name of Jesus!!!! I told Jesus to save and help me. And he did just that. So many people came running to my aid and pulling doors open. Climbing inside my totaled vehicle to pull me out. Oh I had and still have an indescribable undeniable dance, praise built up on the inside of me that was ready to come out! A praise of ten thousand hallelujahs wasn’t enough. You see I was scared at the moment, but I was so grateful God spared my life…and I was thinking when my car was flipping this was it, BUT GOD said NOT YET! IN RICK FLARES VOICE : WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! HALLEUJAH!!! I’m praising and dancing. Glory Be to God! Oh yes, would have loved to go and be with my loved ones in Heaven, but my purpose was not complete and I thank God for letting me ultimately fulfill his purpose! Oh I have another song building up inside of me:

God has not promised me sunshine
That’s not the way it’s supposed to be
But a little rain mixed with God’s sunshine
A little pain, makes me appreciate the good times
    Be grateful, be grateful
God desires to feel your longings
Every pain that you feel, He feels them
Just like you, but He can’t afford to make you feel only good
Then you can’t appreciate the good times
Be grateful, be grateful, be grateful
Because there’s someone else who’s worse than you, be grateful
Because there’s someone else who’d love to be in your shoes
Be grateful, God said it would never, never forsake you
    Be grateful

Oh yes. I am so grateful. Grateful that I can go back and see my children again. You see I lost my mother at 6 years old. I need to be in my children’s life as long as possible to repeat the cycle of telling everybody about King Jesus! So grateful that I walked away with only a bruised up body with many contusions and some glass that pierced my neck, ears, and clothes, but it not pierce the protection that My God had around me! Oh Thank you God. So So So Grateful. I could of been dead and gone BUT my God! my God! my God! Oh yes. So Grateful…So Grateful. I am grateful for the pain, I am grateful for the memory of the car accident. This pushes me to this next song:

    I know somehow
    I know someway
    Were going to make it
    No matter what the test
    Whatever comes our way
    Were going to make it

    CHOIR
    With Jesus on our side
    Things will work out fine
    Were gonna make it
    Were gonna make it

    I know somehow
    I know someway
    Were going to make it
    No matter what the test
    Whatever comes our way
    Were going to make it
    With Jesus on our side
    Things will work out fine
    Were gonna make it
    Were gonna make it

This is my message for everyone…everyone reading this. With Jesus on your side, your gonna make it!…I’m going to make it! If you don’t have an intimate relationship. Now is the time! Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior!
    Amen. Amen. Amen.
