Cooking with you in mind momma.

🎶 Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy heavenly birthday dear momma, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! 🎶

I wonder what kind of party y’all having up there momma? What are ya’ll eating and what’s playing on the radio? Do they have birthday cakes and ice cream in Heaven? I’m sure daddy threw down in the kitchen, oh how I miss ya’ll cooking.

Speaking of cooking, guess what I did today momma? I think I finally mastered your macaroni and cheese, potato salad, and coleslaw. Of course it will never be as good as yours but I think you would have given me a thumbs up.

While I was stirring the macaroni I ended up seeing a lady bug, it made my heart happy.

Then suddenly I thought of the gospel song we ALWAYS used to sing at NST. The tears rolled down my face and wouldn’t stop. You remember I’m Free by Rev. Milton Brunson. That song is definitely a tear jerker.

Sadness came over me but I knew I had a tall task today, and that was to tackle your macaroni momma! I prayed and asked God to give me to strength and I looked at your picture and asked you to be my guide.

8 hours later I say thank you momma for being my guide. Thank you for being my guardian angel. Thank you for still being present in a surreal way and for encouraging me in the kitchen when I feel like giving up. Thanks for teaching me how to fight, stand fast, and to at other times to be still and pray.

So while you are probably singing on the Heavenly choir right now or finishing up in the Soul Train line, I wanted to say Happy birthday once more before I go to bed.

And for stopping by in the kitchen to give me a helping hand, I love you momma. Until we met again, get your rest! Oh and tell daddy I need his recipe for rutabaga and pig tails, I’ve got to put that on the menu soon…all I know is I could taste the sugar 😂!

Love you momma, good night.

  1. Awwww……..Happy Birthday Mrs. Davis. I know you are having the lifetime of your eternal life! Praise it up which I know you are doing. I know you are celebrating up there with Mr. Davis…I know my brother probably getting on your nerves talking. Oh I need to eat some Lay’s Potato Chips in memory of you!!! I am proud of your Whitnee. She has started her business and I am so proud of her. You would be too. Oh how I miss you Mrs. Davis but I know you are proud. I am eating this whole bowl of potato Salad Whitnee Made. And Whitnee you were close at getting it right to Mrs. Davis but this is just ok….I guess that’s why I ate almost the whole thing…..Lol. Again. Happy Birthday to you. Cheers to you Mrs. Davis.

    1. I went to the store to get my original Lays and ended up talking and walked out without them. I did however get an ice cream sundae in her honor.

You know Marc talking it up and Deanna right there smiling, saying “now Mrs Davis you know Marc can talk, he needs to hush and sit down somewhere!” Oh how I MISS ALL OF THEM! But one of these old days we will see them again and when that day comes, I’ll shout and scream Glory Hallelujah. But Faith thanks for the kind words, I can’t wait for you to launch Just Fries and have the time to really get Diabetes Talk off the ground.
So I realized what my mom put in hers that I didn’t, but it’s her secret 🤐 and I’m not sharing 😝, but it’s okay because no matter how much I try I can’t duplicate her macaroni, coleslaw, or potato salad…but I’ll keep making it in her honor.

Well I need to go to bed, I have to be in the office at 7am.

Good night horse nose. Good night momma. I love y’all both.

  2. Happy heavenly birthday Mrs. Willa, I’m sure you made your parents proud on yesterday.

  3. Oh, my goodness!! Your birthday,Mrs Willia! Oh, happy heavenly birthday! I know too received the best present ever and that was this message from your daughter! AND the mastered macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and potato salad!!!! I can testify to this! Whitnee, all 3 (and the chicken!) we’re DELICIOUS!! Can I say that again… DELICIOUS! What a treat this was for the Strum family last night… and now to remember that it was your mom’s birthday. Wow.. there could be no sweeter, more precious tribute!

    1. Aww thank you sis! That made me smile! It’s a privilege and true honor to be compared to Willia Davis and her macaroni, coleslaw, and potato salad. The comparison comes because we both labored out of love!

      Thanks sis, I love you!
