It’s the 1st of the month!

🎶 Wake up, wake up, wake up, it’s the first of the month 🎶 Get up, cash your checks, and come on! 🎶

(That’s a little throw back for my hip hop lovers and some of you may remember that song from the movie Friday.)

Do you remember when you were younger and mom or dad or grandma and grandpa would be sitting outside on the porch waiting on the mailman? It wasn’t until I got older that I knew it was because they were waiting on the “first of the month check!” How time has evolved.

Nowadays people have it automatically credited to a debit card or they have an app now that you know what mail is coming and once it has been delivered. Talk about fancy!

During this time instead of going to the corner store getting the 5 cent candies we were “big ballers” and could get the 20 cent candies. Are there stores around that still do the 5 cent candies? I don’t even think you can get a peppermint for that cheap noways.

So going back to grandma and grandpa waiting on the mailman, grandma might not have waited for long. I mean her timing was always right. After she got finished cooking, she might have gone out back to hang the laundry on the line, went inside to look at the news and the soaps (grandma used to love As The World Turns, Young and the Restless and don’t forget about Bold and the Beautiful). After she got done with all of that she would get on the phone with Aunt Mattie and next thing you know- there goes the mailman.

Brings a smile to my face remembering those minor details that left an impression on me until this day. It taught me a thing or to about routines. It also taught me that while you are waiting on something we should continue to be productive- making the most out of every second.

Going back to what grandma taught me, on yesterday I waited on an important phone call regarding the house we were looking at and tried to put an offer in. The time we were to find out was 3pm. 3pm had come and gone and I still didn’t hear from my realtor. I didn’t get antsy like I have in the past with the other offers, I didn’t get stressed out like I did in the past because God gave me peace, and I didn’t worry about what the sellers agent would say. I simply went on about my day with my normal day to day duties and even as night fell I wasn’t worried.

My realtor sent me a text shortly before 9pm stating the seller’s were trying to sell their house in hopes of buying a new home and it was contingent based upon how quickly they sold their house. We had gotten our offer in but our offer wasn’t the only one on the table. Though it seems as though our offer is better the other buyer would be able to close quicker. Normally I would have been “buggin” trying to figure out what was going on but this time felt different. This time I knew without a shadow of a doubt that WHAT GOD HAS FOR ME, IT IS FOR ME!

Anybody know about that sweet blessed assurance I’m talking about right now?

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1 NKJV

The songwriter says, Don’t you worry and don’t you be afraid, joy comes in the morning, troubles they don’t last always. You see there is a friend named Jesus who will wipe your tears away and if your heart is broken; just lift your hands and say.” Sing with me 🎶 I know that I can make it, I know that I can stand. No matter what may come my way, my life is in His hands 🎶

So just as my life is in His hands so is this housing situation. So are my finances, so is the car that needs to be repaired, so are YOU and all YOUR NEEDS AND WANTS. We must walk in the power given to us by God and His Holy Spirit. We must trust is working things out for our good. It may not be when we want it or how we want it but I encourage you to know that the God I serve is always right on time! 🙌🏾

While my family and I wait with anticipation on the house that is on its way and while we wait for the miracle that has our name on it we bless God for the mansion waiting on us in Heaven.

And now my head shall be lifted up above the enemies all around me;
Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;
I will sing, yes, I will sign praises to the Lord.
Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice!
Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.

Psalm 27:6-7 NKJV

Can somebody give my God a hand clap of praise in this place? Can we praise His Holy name? Is there anyone this morning who wishes to seek His face? Oh is there not one who is grateful to our Heavenly Father for being our Help this morning?

The Bible says when my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me.

My sisters and brothers when momma and daddy and your friends mistreat you and abuse you aren’t you glad that God will never leave you nor forsake you?

Let’s go ahead and wrap up Psalm 27.

Teach me Your way, O Lord,
And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.
Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries;
For false witnesses have risen against me,
And such as breathe out violence.
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart,
Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Psalm 27:11-14 NKJV

This passage of scripture spoke to me because had I not learned to watch, wait and trust from momma “and them” then I would have lost heart. But I thank God for a praying grandmother and a praying mother and a praying father who knew that in this life I was going to through some things and they prayed over my brother and I and they taught us a thing or two about endurance.

How many of you out there in the wilderness of life and you wondering how long? How much farther? How deep does the sorrow go? How many more loved ones going to die? How long more do I have to sleep on mommy couch? When I’m going to stop catching this bus and have a car? Oh we have all the questions and don’t seem to have the answer. But my sisters and brothers I came to tell you this morning that God is the answer. Can I tell you that He will understand us by and by.

Did you know this morning that because God cares for us He is going to supply our all of our needs. The Bible tells us we don’t have to worry about what we are going to eat or drink. The Bible tells us that we can expect and receive God’s help and salvation right now! Some of us out here wandering around in the wilderness lost as two blind bats- can I tell you this morning that God is our source of light even in the midst of the darkness. Even if it feels like 2020 hasn’t been good to you or you been through hell this year and ready for 2021, let me tell you that God was down there in the murky waters right along with you.

Oh praise God somebody. I’m so glad I’ve been able to see God’s goodness, His grace, His mercy, His love, His power while I’m still amongst the living. I’m so happy I’m not walking around spiritually dead. I thank God He spared my life and I’m not in my grave right now and I’m still in my right mind. Oh I’m so glad right now that even while I have received no to this house, no to that house, and a maybe on the one now that I’VE NEVER LOST SIGHT OF THE BLESSINGS THAT AWAIT ME ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS THING!

I feel like I got to tell somebody whom is wondering when this storm is going to end, I got to tell you my friend to hold on. I have to tell you to trust God and know He is there even if you feel like He is silent. I have to tell someone that like grandma did- she didn’t waist no time while waiting on that mailman- and you shouldn’t waist no time getting mad at God or cursing His name because your “breakthrough” didn’t happen yet.

Are you alive? Can you read? Can you write? Did someone have to dress you this morning? Hello somebody. I need us to get on our grind and get to work for the Lord’s kingdom. The coronavirus can’t stop us from spreading God’s word and His love to others. This coronavirus can’t stop us for receiving what God has for us. So if you or someone you know may need some encouragement this morning tell them to Wake up IT’S THE FIRST OF THE MONTH! Tell them:

Wait on the Lord;

Be of good courage,

And He shall strengthen your heart;

WAIT, I SAY, ON THE LORD!

Psalm 27:14 NKJV

Thank you grandmother and thank you kindly Mr. Postman!!!

  1. Great message this morning. and it was right on time. Thank you whitney for always sharing your love of God with others.

  2. This is AWESOME, Whitnee!!! I love how you have used Psalm 27 throughout the blog – one of my ALL-TIME favorite Psalms! Remind me to tell you one day a story about this psalm …
    Is this THE house in the picture? Oh, how we are praying!

    1. To God be the glory! I cannot wait to hear this story. Yes I ❤️ Psalm 27 as well! I love all of them but this one really speaks to me on so many levels.

      Yes that was the picture of the house. You now know this will not be our forever home but I pray for the family who won the bid and pray it will be a FOREVER home for them and their family.

      Our home will come and when it does what a joyful day it will be! I’ll be 💃🏻 in the 🌧!
